Yiorgos Magoulas is a distinguished Greek composer, conductor, and guitarist, renowned for his contributions to film and orchestral music. He studied classical guitar, composition, arrangement, and orchestration at the National Conservatory of Athens before furthering his education at Morley College in London.
His professional career began in 1991 when he composed music for the Research Theatre under Dimitris Potamitis. Since then, he has created music for orchestras, theatre productions, artistic events, films, television commercials, and documentaries.
In 2000, the Church of England commissioned his oratorio Propitiation, which premiered in London. As a guitar soloist, he performed his compositions at the Brussels Winter Jazz Festival in 2014. The following year, he founded and conducted the Alter Move Orchestra, an ensemble that blends the rich tonal palette of a guitar ensemble with instruments such as the accordion, mandolin, flute, trumpet, trombone, violin, cello, and percussion.
In 2021, Magoulas composed music for the Greece 2021 Committee to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution. Throughout his career, he has released six albums featuring his compositions and has received numerous accolades, including the Golden Ermis Award in 1995.
