Yiorgos Magoulas, a classically trained film and orchestral composer, studied classical guitar and composition in Athens before furthering his education at Morley College in London. He is highly regarded both in Greece and internationally, having contributed to some of the country's most acclaimed projects. In addition to his compositional work, Yiorgos has inspired numerous musicians as an educator through private lessons, seminars, and masterclasses.
Born in Athens in 1970, Yiorgos began his professional career in 1991 by composing music for the Research Theater under Dimitris Potamitis. Throughout his career, he has composed music for orchestra, theater, artistic events, films, television commercials, and approximately 150 documentaries. His works have been recorded and performed by the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra and have been presented in countries including Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, England, Italy, Belgium, and France.
Notably, in 2000, his oratorio "Propitiation" was presented in London following a commission by the Church of England. In 2014, he performed as a soloist at the Brussels Winter Jazz Festival, and in 2015, he founded and conducted the Alter Move Orchestra. In 2021, he composed music for the Greece 2021 Committee, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.
Yiorgos has released six albums featuring his compositions and has been recognized with awards such as the Golden Ermis Award in 1995. His dedication to music education and composition continues to influence and inspire the musical community.
